Given that there's no design on this yet, and there's other high priority work in UI for 4.1, moving this out of scope.

Yes that would be fine.
Hydrator plugin configurations give only a high level error message without being specific. It should either provide exact field names and issues with them or it can say there is an issue, but at-least it highlights field and shows a short message below that.
